About Leslie Ellis
Leslie Ellis has been using yoga to heal for nearly three decades.
I have always been drawn to supporting others’ health. My grandmother tells stories of me rescuing sick animals and I was a definite caretaker in my family and circle of friends. I earned my degree in Occupational Therapy and practiced in the field for over 15 years. Since 1998 I have been sharing yoga as a healing practice with students in classes and private sessions. In 2001 I left my formal OT practice to expand my education in therapeutic yoga and complete advanced yoga teacher training.
Yoga has been a lifesaver for me….literally! My practice helped me to move through a challenging period in my 20’s dealing with both anxiety and depression. I also used yoga to find personal healing related to a significant back injury. My own personal healing is a major factor in my ongoing desire to teach and to support others in transforming their lives. Asana, meditation and the philosophies of yoga help me every day in living and thriving in this wild ride called life!
Through all of this, I have developed an approach to yoga instruction that is heartfelt and fun while also being challenging and technically precise. I work primarily with individuals and small groups, and it is my intention to guide students through a discovery process, exploring the capacity of the body, the expansiveness of the heart and the celebration of life through yoga. I am deeply passionate about the influence that yoga can have on all aspects of our lives. It teaches us how to honor ourselves, respect others and live from our hearts. And I am grateful to all of my yoga teachers, both the ones I study with and all of the students who share their practice and lives with me.
