Yoga Teacher Training Program and Yoga Immersion
The HeartSong Yoga Teacher Training and Immersion is a three tiered program for serious yoga students and those interested in pursuing teaching. It is also appropriate for students who have completed another yoga teacher training program and/or are teaching but want to expand their skill through elements offered by HeartSong Yoga. The program is also recommended for any yoga teacher who is interested in subbing or teaching at HeartSong Yoga and Wellness Center.
The first tier of the program is the Immersion. This is for serious yoga students who are interested in deepening their practice and understanding of yoga. Read more details on the Immersion.
The second tier is the 200-hour yoga teacher training. This is for those yoga students who are interested in teaching yoga or developing greater skill in the art and science of teaching. HeartSong is a Registered Yoga School with the Yoga Alliance so all of our graduates are eligible to apply for designation as a Registered Yoga Teacher. The third tier is the Yoga Teaching Mentorship. This is a 10-month program designed to take the student from the training program to observing, assisting and teaching yoga in the classroom. Students will be paired with a class on the regular HeartSong Yoga studio schedule. This program is primarily for individuals who have completed the HeartSong Yoga Teacher Training program. Occasionally, a teacher who has completed another yoga teacher training program will be admitted into the mentorship program. This will be decided on a case by case basis. The final decision is at the sole discretion of the Program Director. Click for more information on HeartSong Yoga's Mentorship Program.
Immersion
The immersion program runs along with the Teacher Training. Students attend parts of the Teacher Training weekends as a way to deepen their studies of yoga. The program is held for two hours, one Friday evening each month along with three hours on each of the corresponding Saturdays. Participation in a yoga therapeutic focus class is optional for each weekend. In the yoga classes attended, students will have the opportunity to participate in philosophy lectures, discussions and group activities; asana classes with specific alignment focus as well as detailed exploration of a balanced asana practice; and pranayama and meditation sessions. In addition to the training weekends, a regular home practice is required and a yoga practice journal is recommended. There is no certification associated with the immersion.
200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training
Students in the full Yoga Teacher Training Program start their program with a three-day weekend retreat at a beautiful, local retreat center. The retreat setting gives students an opportunity to get to know one another and to dive into this year-long training. Students attend the same Friday and Saturday classes as the Immersion students along with additional classes on the scheduled Saturdays where they explore skills particular to the teaching of yoga. Group discussion, practice exercises and peer teaching all comprise these enriching classes. A three-hour Sunday session in the therapeutic application of yoga ends each training weekend. All students in the program are required to maintain a regular home yoga practice and a yoga practice journal as well as attend at least one class each week with an approved instructor. There are other homework requirements which must be completed in order for students to recieve the certificate of completion. Please see our teacher training application packet for more information.
Mentorship
Once students complete the yoga teacher training program they are eligible for a teaching mentorship at HeartSong Yoga. Students in the mentoring program attend a weekly yoga class with one of the HeartSong Yoga instructors. They begin observing, taking notes and completing short written assignments then move into a more active roll within class assisting and finally taking on teaching within the class.
