Therapeutic Yoga
Surgery left me with weak muscles, but it gave me a strong case of anxiety. I asked Leslie to instruct me in poses that would help strengthen core muscles and regain peace of mind. Over three one-hour sessions, she guided me as we built a routine that I could practice at home. When a pose was too difficult, she modified it so that I could do it comfortably. She gave me clear written instructions so I would remember how to do poses correctly once I got home. I particularly like her stick figure yogis. I appreciate her knowledge, patience, and compassion. My attitude has improved and she has inspired me to continue with my yoga practice. I now attend group sessions at Heartsong.

We are devoted to the growth and well being of the students we work with and to making a difference in our community. As a part of this mission, we also specialize in teaching yoga as a therapeutic modality. Therapeutic yoga sessions are offered privately by appointment. You will learn specific techniques and yoga poses to support healing of injuries and/or chronic illness. The first session will include an evaluation and information about your condition from a yoga perspective. You will also be given initial exercises which are designed to address your issues. Follow up sessions will allow you to work with your instructor to refine your understanding and performance of the exercises as well as adding to your program as you progress. “Leslie's experience and insights have helped me recover from a significant walking and balance problem that resulted from a knee injury. Therapeutic Focus Workshops
Yoga and Fibromyalgia
My body welcomed the HeartSong Yoga approach as if wrapping myself up in a warm soft blanket on a cold winter evening. I felt the immediate pain relief that I had felt before with other types of Yoga, but noticed that the relief was longer lasting and when the pain returned it was not as intense. Initially I didn't understand the difference but I happily accepted the longer term benefits of better sleep, less stiffness, more energy, and of course the most relief from pain I had felt in many years. These classes are designed for new or experienced yoga students and can also be helpful for yoga teachers, healthcare professionals and body workers who want more specific information with which to assist their clients. Each month we offer a Therapeutic Focus yoga workshop to provide yoga students, community members and others who are interested an opportunity to explore a particular issue or part of the body in more depth through yoga. Each workshop covers basic anatomy and movement principles. Students receive individualized attention and a written yoga routine to take home for further practice.
