Turning Up the
Heat

Greetings
 Hope you all had
an
enjoyable 4th and are having a fantastic summer!!
HeartSong is
buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. The summer immersion has been a blast
and I thank all of you who are taking part. What a gift it has been for
me
and the studio to have you all so regularly attending classes. It is
amazing to see you expanding into new realms in yoga and a real blessing
to be a part of that.
As many of you know, I just returned
from
a six day meditation retreat where I also had the opportunity to immerse
myself in practice. These intense periods of practice, whether one goes
away to study or makes a renewed commitment to regular classes or home
practice, are so important in the journey of deepening. Each time I
attend
a retreat or training I am amazed at the levels within me I can travel
to.
This too is a gift!
That diving in and turning up the heat is
the practice of tapas. This is the fire that helps to burn up
old
habits of mind and body - it fuels the process of purification. While a
weekly yoga practice can be of great benefit to help with general aches
and pains and supports us in taking time to contemplate how we are
living,
it is regular practice with periods of intensified ardor which really
light
the fire of tapas and help us to make the significant shifts
possible with yoga in a timely way.
We are constantly offering
opportunities for you to "turn up the heat" and we invite you
to
consider the benefit of being more consistent, practicing with greater
fervor and immersing yourself when you can!
Our summer
immersion classes (7 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday) are open for
drop-ins. We have also had a few requests to continue the immersion
beyond
the end of July. If you would consider either continuing the immersion or
would like to join now or at the beginning of August, please click the
link below to email us and let us know of your interest. We will make a
decision soon as to whether the early a.m. classes will be continued
through September.

Fall Retreat in
Ashland
 Another
great way to build strength and fervor for practice is to attend a
retreat.
The retreat setting gives you the opportunity to take time out from your
busy schedule and all your responsibilities. It gives you time to simply
focus on yourself
and yoga. The longer classes and consecutive practices also allow your
body
to open in new ways and students often say they deepen both their
understanding
and ability in the postures in a way that just doesn't come through a
once
a week or even twice a week class.
Leslie leads retreats
several times each year and welcomes students of all levels to attend.
The
next scheduled retreat is in September and will be held in Ashland at
Buckhorn Springs Retreat Center. Date: Sept. 21-23, 2007 Cost:
$400/double, $460/single
The retreat
begins Friday evening and goes through lunch on Sunday. Cost includes two
nights' accommodations, organic meals, 10+ hours of yoga, pranayama and
meditation and personal enjoyment time. The grounds of Buckhorn Springs
are tranquil and beautiful. You may even want to consider going a day or
two early or staying after to enjoy a play at the Shakespearean
Festival!
Leslie
will be co-teaching with her dear friend and colleague Matthew Hartman
from Corvallis. Matt and Leslie have a synergistic approach and their
retreats and workshops are dynamic and supportive and help to open
students to the deeper heart of yoga. To check out Buckhorn Springs go to www.buckhornsprings.org
