Community and
Family

It Takes a
Village
There are many
places in the world where people rely much more on community support than
we do here in the US. Here individuality and independence are strong
values and we often think we shouldn't lean on others for support. Yoga helps to teach us a little about the deeper supports we have
available. How our resources run much deeper than we often perceive and
how important community is.
One of our community members,
Vanessa Rodin, is in need of some extra support right now and I would
like
to extend her request to you all. Vanessa attends the Tuesday and
Thursday 9 a.m. classes and last year offered her support to several of
you as an apprentice in the Beginning class on Sunday mornings. A couple
of weeks ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is in the process
of gathering information and learning about treatment alternatives and
working to take good care of herself through some supportive therapies
like acupuncture and other body work. Vanessa is a strong believer
in
the power of alternative medicine and the power of the mind in healing.
As
a Shiatsu massage therapist she has supported countless people in
healing.
Also as a massage therapist who has a private massage practice,
she doesn't
have health insurance to cover these alternative therapies. This limits
her
financial resources for pursuing treatments that she knows to be so
beneficial. Vanessa is requesting that we all keep her in our
thoughts and prayers. Send her love and light and blessings for healing.
In addition she has a healing fund set up and if you have the resources
to
assist her, she will be incredibly grateful. Any amount will be helpful.
We
will take checks, made out to Vanessa with "Gift" or
"Healing Fund" written on the memo line, here at the studio and
make sure they get to her. If you would like to send a card or
contribution to her directly, click on the link below for her contact
information.

Yoga supports Families
too!
Many of you know just how yoga supports your family. Often
people comment about how much nicer they are to their spouses, children
and friends when they are practicing consistently. Frequently, people
come
to class after a stressful week and say "my husband (or wife) said I
should go to yoga...."
This summer we have a number of
new
offerings especially for families.
Our Prenatal Yoga time is
changing to Sundays at 3:00 p.m. (some of you felt it was cutting into
your family time being in the middle of the day on Saturday!)
We are also adding Yoga Bonding. This is a class for babies and their
caregivers. Whether you are a new mom, a stay at home dad, a helpful
grandparent or a childcare provider caring for a baby, this class is for
you and the baby you care for. Yoga Bonding supports the caregiver
through
gentle exercise and breathing and like any yoga class can help to
decrease
stress and increase sense of well being to help you to be the best
caregiver you can be. It helps babies through promoting the development
of
motor and emotional skills and can support improved sleep cycles. The
Yoga Bonding class will be offered on Sundays from 4:30 - 5:45 p.m.
Kid's Yoga returns to HeartSong!! Emily Soiney, who also
teaches prenatal and Yoga Bonding, will be offering 3 yoga workshops for
kids ages 5 - 11 this summer. The classes will be held on Saturdays,
June 23rd, July 14th and August 18th from 3 - 4:30
p.m.

kids will do in these workshops; click here!

Summer Immersion and
Intro
to Yoga
 Summer Immersion 6
weeks,
June 18 - July 27 Monday, Wednesday, Friday 7 - 8:30 a.m. This summer we are offering an immersion to help you deepen your yoga
practice. Mondays will include the introduction on a yoga sutra and
a physical principle which will be explored in asanas including some
partner work. On Wednesdays enjoy an all levels practice focused on
standing poses and building on the foundation set on Monday. Friday will
be a silent day at the studio - we will do a vinyasa style practice and
instruction will be given however with less detail and more periods of
silence throughout. More opportunity for personal contemplation of the
philosophy theme will be allowed. It is recommended that you have at
least
6 months yoga experience for this immersion. For Beginners who want
to dive in (and now is as good a time as any) you are welcome to attend
Monday and Friday at 9:00am for a beginning class with the same themes
and
Wednesday at 7:00am which will be for all levels. The cost of the
Immersion will be $160 (3 class/week at $9/class) This package will allow
you to attend unlimited classes for the entire 6 weeks so you can be as
immersed as you like! The immersion will be taught by Leslie with
the
help of Chris Lehman who will be attending the entire series and teaching
a
few of the classes.
Introduction to Yoga a 6 week series June 25th -
July 30th, Mondays 7:00 - 8:00pm This class will include short
lectures introducing students to the history and philosophy of yoga and a
gentle yoga practice. Designed for first time students to experience some
basic yoga postures and develop an understanding of what a yoga class is
like. Also great for newer beginning students who want an introduction to
the philosophy of yoga in more depth than is offered in weekly
classes.
