Greetings!
It seems we were just welcoming
in the heat of the summer and now here it is the beginning of September!
We have wrapped up our summer vacations, kids are back in school, the
days
are becoming shorter and have you noticed how the light and shadows have
changed over the last week or so? While the summer seems to have rushed
by, it is now slowing down and there is a meandering quality to the days
that I find I am enjoying. I appreciate the glow of the late summer days
which still hold the essence of all the activity of the season but feel
less frenetic and busy. I am soaking in the softening warmth of the
afternoons and evenings and the gentle coolness of the night air coming
in through my window as I sleep.
It was truly a busy summer
for
me. I had the great opportunity to travel and further my studies with two
master teachers. I deepened my meditation practice with Ajahn Amaro, a
wonderful monk from Abayaghiri Monastery in Northern California, and
enjoyed an enlightening and nurturing yoga week with Angela Farmer. We completed our first annual Summer Immersion program at HeartSong -
taking a dedicated group of students through a 6 week course of asana and
philosophy based around several aphorisms from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.
And even though many of our regulars seem to have been on vacation or
busy
with family through the summer, we have had the great fortune to welcome
in a number of new students over the last few months! Personally, I
have also had a number of things going on. My husband and I are moving
soon - downsizing to a smaller house and yard! and working to simplify a
little. Of course, the process of simplifying doesn't feel simple at all
as we spent many weeks looking at properties, have done major cleaning
and
repair projects in our current house (with the frequent musing of
"why
didn't we do this when we were going to stay to enjoy it? :) ) and now
the
process of selling our house while beginning to update and remodel the
new
one which we will move into sometime during the demolition of the
kitchen!
Ah the joys of growing new experiences into our lives!!
Luckily, I have yoga to help to remind me of the rhythm of the seasons.
I am encouraged right now to step back a little and look at what has
grown
and to let that nourish me. Although there is still work to do, I am
slowing down and enjoying these meandering days and appreciating the
harvest of all the hard work done. I hope that as you move from
whatever your summer has brought into your life into the quieter days of
fall that you too find yoga as a support that helps you to appreciate the
blessings that blossomed and the warmth and glow that lingers!
We have a number of new classes and workshops to support you in deepening
in yoga, please join us!
Namaste', Leslie
